In preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Srinagar for International Yoga Day, the Jammu and Kashmir police have designated the city as a ‘temporary red zone’. This designation, which restricts unauthorized use of drones and quadcopters, aligns with the Drone Rules, 2021, requiring special permissions for such activities in red zones.
The declaration of Srinagar as a temporary red zone was reported by ANI, marking heightened security measures for the Prime Minister’s visit. This trip will be Modi’s first to Jammu and Kashmir since commencing his third term in office.
“Arrangements for the program have been put in place and preparations are underway,” an official stated, as quoted by PTI. The International Yoga Day event, led by Prime Minister Modi, is scheduled to take place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre.
In the lead-up to the event, the Prime Minister’s official social media accounts have been actively promoting various yoga asanas and raising awareness about the health benefits of yoga. Previous International Yoga Day celebrations under Modi’s leadership have been held in Delhi, Chandigarh, Jabalpur, Dehradun, and even at the United Nations.
This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Self and Society’, was announced by AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav, emphasizing yoga’s significant role in individual and societal development. In a letter to gram panchayats dated June 13, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the global impact of yoga, stating, “Nations across the world are gearing up to celebrate the 10th edition of International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2024. It is a celebration of the impact that Yoga has had on the global community, as well as the positive changes that it has ushered in our lives. The theme of International Day of Yoga this year, ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ will further strengthen our efforts to build a healthy nation.”
The announcement underscores the importance of yoga in promoting health and well-being, and the significant preparations underway to ensure the success of this year’s International Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar.
