According tomedia reports, if your goal is to lose weight, then spending a little money on over-the-counter weight loss supplements and flavors may not help you. That’s based on a new analysis of 121 randomized studies over the past 16 years. The study found that there is currently no evidence that these products can be used to lose weight.

The findings come from two new studies to be presented at the European Congress on Obesity. The study, which reviewed placebo-controlled randomized studies totaling nearly 10,000 adult participants, concluded that these spice over-the-counter products were not effective for weight loss.

Unlike prescription drugs, these over-the-counter drugs are often sold as supplements and are said to help with weight loss, but there are no evaluations to determine whether they work. These supplements include green tea, tropical fruits, ephedrine, garcinia cambogia, yerba mate, white kidney beans, licorice root, and more.

While some compounds and preparations carry statistically significant weight loss data, studies of the whole body have found no evidence that these supplements are an effective weight loss method — and researchers also point out that some spices may have long-term health concerns , just hasn’t been found yet.

Ultimately, Erica Bessell, the study’s lead author of the paper, noted: “Spice and dietary supplements appear to be quick fixes for weight problems, but people need to know that we actually know very little about them. There are very few high-quality studies on some Supplements are studied, and there is little data on long-term effectiveness. What’s more, many trials were very small and poorly designed, and some did not report the ingredients of the supplements under investigation. The tremendous growth and popularity underscores the urgency of conducting larger, more rigorous studies to provide reasonable assurance about its safety and efficacy in weight loss.”
