COLUMBUS, Ohio – At 92 years old, Mary Leininger is a dedicated user of the Senso Think & Move machine, an innovative interactive fitness program aimed at promoting both physical and cognitive well-being among seniors.
What You Need To Know:
The Senso Think & Move machine is an interactive fitness program designed to enhance the cognitive and physical well-being of seniors.
The program requires participants to recognize directions on a screen and move their bodies accordingly.
Currently, the Dublin Retirement Village is the only community in central Ohio utilizing this program.
Leininger finds the program not only fun but also challenging, as it requires the coordination of mental and physical skills. “It’s made me more conscious of weight shifting and my observation skills because you have to keep track and move at the same time. It can be quite complicated,” she shared.
The program involves recognizing directions displayed on a screen and responding with corresponding body movements, integrating mental and physical exercises while tracking participants’ progress. At present, Dublin Retirement Village is the sole facility in central Ohio that offers this program.
“It allows our residents to work on balance and strength, as well as reaction time and weight shifting, while also incorporating a component of cognitive wellness,” explained Amanda Theobald, a therapist at the facility.
While some residents use the program to address existing issues, 79-year-old John Crumrine is taking a proactive approach. “This is an excellent machine that helps senior citizens like myself actively participate in efforts to reduce or eliminate falls,” Crumrine stated.
Though the primary aim of the program is to maintain seniors’ health, Leininger believes it offers additional benefits. “I think it’s an enjoyable way to learn about yourself,” she concluded.
The Senso Think & Move machine continues to demonstrate its value in fostering a holistic approach to senior health, combining physical activity with cognitive exercises to enhance overall well-being.
