Civilian Health Promotions Expands Free Virtual Fitness and Wellness Offerings

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — As summer progresses, many people find their initial fitness enthusiasm waning. The combination of rising temperatures and monotonous exercise routines can diminish motivation. To address this, the Civilian Health Promotion Services (CHPS) program has introduced new and innovative features to its wellness web portal, offering a range of free virtual fitness and health resources.

The CHPS program now provides high-quality, engaging online fitness and mindfulness classes through Les Mills International, available via the Air Force Wellness portal. This initiative aims to reinvigorate civilian exercise routines and broaden access to wellness resources.

“The CHPS program already offers a broad spectrum of health-related content,” explained Sonya Meier, the Department of the Air Force CHPS Program Manager. “However, we recognized that fitness and nutrition were areas with significant potential for enhancement. This expansion of virtual services is designed to support locations lacking in-person CHPS staff.”

Les Mills International brings a variety of fitness programs to the portal, including workouts that range from 15 minutes to an hour, suitable for all skill levels. Users can choose from diverse classes such as dance, stretching, and high-energy fitness sessions, available 24/7.

“We selected Les Mills because their programs are grounded in scientific research,” Meier noted. “Their workouts are thoroughly studied to ensure they effectively help users achieve their fitness and health objectives.”

Meier added, “I personally use these programs and particularly enjoy the yoga sessions. With over 20 different programs available, users can easily vary their routines and stay engaged.”

In addition to fitness classes, the portal now features Diet ID, a personalized nutrition assessment and management tool. Unlike traditional food tracking methods, Diet ID uses a visual approach to help users optimize their diet. Participants assess their eating habits through a series of images and questions, receiving tailored guidance based on their personal health goals.

“Diet ID is designed to address various dietary needs, whether users aim to reduce salt intake, adopt a cleaner diet, or accommodate cultural or medical food restrictions,” Meier said. “It offers practical advice, including menu planning and recipes, to support users in achieving their nutrition goals.”

These updates enhance the existing array of health programs on the Air Force Wellness portal. Users can now access health risk assessments, exercise and step tracking logs, a local event calendar, stress management resources, sleep hygiene tips, and more.

With these new tools, the CHPS program aims to provide comprehensive support for maintaining health and fitness, ensuring that Air Force civilians have access to valuable resources regardless of their location.
