Mystery surrounds the future of a UFC gym, which was expected to open at a city retail park last summer, after new photos appeared to show the site empty. The images seem to show that the gym’s branding and equipment, including kettlebells and benches, have been removed from the Castle Marina Retail Park location.
NottinghamshireLive reached out to the operators of the Nottingham branch for comment but received no response by the time of publication. The unit, located next to B&M, remains shuttered with blacked-out windows, nearly a year after its anticipated opening date.
The gym was set to relocate to the Castle Marina retail park on Castle Bridge Road after the closure of its Huntingdon Street branch in November 2023. The company had announced in spring 2024 that the new location, in the former Mothercare unit, would open that summer. However, the gym has not opened yet, and renovation work at the site appeared to have only recently ceased.
Silence has surrounded the new gym’s opening since then. Photos taken on Saturday, April 19, showed the interior vacant, with a visible gap revealing cracks in the building. The exterior still displays UFC branding and signs that read, “Register online now – UFC Gym coming soon,” along with a QR code.
Scanning the QR code leads to a registration page offering “exclusive launch offers.” The website for the Castle Marina branch remains operational, detailing membership options and other information.
The new gym was planned to have an open layout, including a large area for machines and free weights, a functional fitness zone with turf, a cardio section, and UFC Octagon and fight sport training facilities.
After the Huntingdon Street gym closed, several former members claimed they were still charged for memberships, even though the gym had shut down. Curtis Harvey, the company’s marketing manager at the time, stated that the business was working to resolve the refund issues.
