Simu Liu’s Balanced Lifestyle: The Actor Spills the Beans on His Fitness and Diet Routine

Simu Liu, renowned for his roles in “Shang-Chi” and the upcoming film “Barbie,” recently divulged his fitness and dietary preferences, shedding light on his regimen to stay in top shape.

When it comes to his workout routine, the 34-year-old actor shared insights with GQ, highlighting his commitment to staying active. While filming, Liu typically engages in high-intensity interval training (HIIT). However, during his off-duty periods, he opts for sports over traditional gym workouts, emphasizing that he doesn’t solely revolve his life around the gym or aspire to attain a bulging physique. “I don’t live for the gym,” he emphasized. “I don’t live to lift and get swole, you know what I mean?”

Having grown up as an athlete and being part of his varsity volleyball, basketball, and rugby teams, Liu has maintained his love for sports. He mentioned converting his garage into a home gym, which he uses sparingly. Instead, his daily fitness regime often involves shooting hoops on his driveway basketball net.

In preparation for his role in “Barbie,” David Higgins, one of the trainers for the film, revealed that Liu, alongside co-stars like Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, concentrated on exercises such as Pilates, pull-ups, push-ups, and plank challenges to hone their physique.

Regarding his dietary choices, Liu confessed to GQ that he isn’t a particularly picky eater and enjoys a varied palate. Thanks to his fast metabolism, he takes a relaxed approach to his diet. “I really love all Asian food, which means like a lot of carbs,” he admitted. His culinary preferences range from steamed rice and beef stir-fry to dumplings, noodles, and Korean BBQ. He also expressed his fondness for fried chicken, albeit acknowledging the need for moderation: “I would have fried chicken every day if it was physically possible to not die doing it. There’s something about the crispy juiciness of fried chicken that is just something special. I love KFC.”

Beyond his workout and diet routines, Liu finds enjoyment in playing sports with friends and partakes in scuba diving, a passion he discovered while preparing for a film earlier this year.
