Fashion model Lisa Snowdon recently revealed a disheartening encounter from her early career when a Milan-based fashion designer urged her to “lose weight” before a show. The 51-year-old discussed her experience during an episode of her podcast StyleDNA, in conversation with renowned fashion designer Amanda Wakeley.
Reflecting on the evolution of the fashion industry, Lisa noted that while progress has been made towards inclusivity and reducing manipulation, challenges still persist behind the scenes. She shared her personal experience of feeling pressure to socialize with clients during her time in Paris, often wealthy older men. She recollected crafting elaborate excuses to avoid such engagements, placing the responsibility on her agency for these demands.
In contrast, Lisa highlighted her positive experiences working with Amanda Wakeley in the past. She praised Amanda for never once pressuring her about her figure and for being supportive, enthusiastic, and accepting of women’s diverse physiques.
Lisa also reminisced about being measured and told to lose weight while in Milan. This demand didn’t align with her values, and it left her uncomfortable.
Despite this setback, Lisa Snowdon went on to achieve a highly successful career in the fashion industry. Her breakthrough came at the age of 22 when she modeled “The Ultrabra” by Gossard in 1994, and she subsequently signed contracts with several swimwear brands. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, she maintained a prominent presence in the industry, culminating in her appointment as the face of “Britain’s Next Top Model” in 2006, where she was the UK’s equivalent to supermodel Tyra Banks.
While her current role often involves fashion presenting, Lisa continues to model. She is a regular fixture on the presenting team of “This Morning,” where she hosts segments related to fashion.
In a separate aspect of her life, Lisa Snowdon has openly discussed her challenges with fertility. She endured a tragic miscarriage while live on air following a violent attack by an abusive ex-boyfriend. This painful experience led her to grapple with thoughts that the miscarriage was a “punishment” for a past abortion in her late 20s. Lisa emphasized the societal challenges faced by those who opt for non-traditional paths in life, encouraging empathy and understanding.
Lisa Snowdon’s personal life has also seen happier developments. She has found contentment with entrepreneur George, with whom she first dated 22 years ago while working at MTV. In 2015, they were reintroduced through a mutual friend, rekindling their relationship. The couple announced their engagement in January 2017, a mere five weeks after Lisa left the 2016 series of “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.”
