Construction on the arena at Laramie County Community College (LCCC) has been ongoing for over a year, with some delays causing uncertainty regarding the project’s completion date.
Though an exact date for completion remains elusive, LCCC Athletic Director Mark Puev expressed confidence in a target date of “Early Spring.”
The long-anticipated reopening of the on-campus arena represents a significant development for the LCCC community, particularly for student-athletes who have not had access to a true “home court.”
“We’re looking at ways to commemorate them and make sure they know we appreciate everything that they did,” Puev stated, referencing the athletes who have played exclusively at Storey Gym.
Puev emphasized the broader impact of the new facility, stating, “It’s not just going to be significant for our basketball programs, but for all athletics at LCCC. This will arguably be one of the best indoor facilities in Region Nine.”
The upgraded arena will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including a spacious 1,000-square-foot champions lounge, a 15×18-foot video board, and multiple scoreboards distributed throughout the facility.
Puev highlighted a crucial consideration during the planning process, saying, “One of the things that was of utmost importance on our checklist was distinguishing our venue from a high school gym. We’re introducing seats with armrests, seat backs, and cupholders on both sides. It may seem trivial until you’ve spent six hours on a high school bench. You realize that, as you get older, your back doesn’t appreciate it. The added comfort will undoubtedly make a significant difference.”
