In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, music icon Usher opened up about his daily diet and exercise routine, offering insights into how he maintains his enviable physique. From fasting to meditation, here’s a glimpse into his regimen:
Each day begins with a unique concoction of lemon, ginger, water, and cayenne pepper, which he drinks hot. This is followed by celery juice, setting a healthy tone for the day ahead. Usher emphasizes the importance of starting the day early for moments of reflection, often engaging in activities like reading or meditation to stimulate his mind.
When it comes to breakfast, Usher prefers to delay his first meal until after he has engaged in physical activity, such as yoga or a walk. His breakfast choices range from scrambled eggs with cheese to poached or over easy eggs, highlighting his commitment to a balanced diet.
One distinctive aspect of Usher’s routine is his practice of fasting on Wednesdays, a tradition he inherited from his grandmother. Starting around 11 p.m. the night before, he consumes only water throughout Wednesday, a practice he believes has significant health benefits.
In terms of exercise, Usher opts for activities that are gentle on his body, such as walking, swimming, and bike riding. Due to past knee surgeries, including a torn meniscus, he avoids heavy weight lifting. This tailored approach to fitness allows him to stay in peak condition without putting undue strain on his body.
Despite his disciplined approach to diet and exercise, Usher admits that preparing for his headline performance at the 2024 Super Bowl was particularly challenging. Describing it as “one of the hardest 15 minutes that I’ll ever have in my life,” he explains that he focused on remedying his body the night before and adhering to a strict, low-carb diet leading up to the event.
Usher’s commitment to his well-being serves as an inspiration, showcasing the importance of a balanced lifestyle encompassing nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness.
