In a charged press conference on Sunday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi minister Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately endangering Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health during his judicial custody in the excise policy case. Atishi highlighted that Kejriwal’s weight has dramatically dropped from 70 kg to 61.5 kg since his arrest, emphasizing the second day of the party’s public concern over his health.
Atishi asserted, “The BJP has arrested the CM, elected with more than 90 percent of the seats, in a fabricated case. He provides round-the-clock electricity, free education, health facilities, and free bus travel for women in Delhi. This arrest is not just a political maneuver; it’s a conspiracy to kill Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP is attempting to harm his health in jail, denying him essential medicines, insulin, and other necessary treatments for his diabetes.”
Responding sharply, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva accused AAP of staging a drama to mislead the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the judiciary. Sachdeva argued, “AAP leaders are well aware that their party is losing political ground amid escalating corruption allegations. If Kejriwal stays in jail for an extended period, the party might disintegrate. That’s why they persistently make these claims to secure his bail.”
Sachdeva’s comments come as a counter to Atishi’s assertion, portraying AAP’s claims as a strategic distraction rather than a legitimate concern.
On Saturday, AAP’s Sanjay Singh had echoed similar concerns about Kejriwal’s health, reinforcing the party’s narrative of BJP’s alleged malicious intentions.
Atishi’s statements further included historical comparisons, suggesting that the BJP’s actions mirror those of dictators who have imprisoned and harmed political opponents.
The controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s imprisonment and health continues to unfold, with both parties entrenched in a war of words over the issue.
