Brooklyn, NY — July 29, 2024 — Prospect Park has unveiled a newly renovated adult fitness area and playground enhancements, made possible by $850,000 in funding from the District 39 participatory budget. The Prospect Park Alliance, in collaboration with Council Member Shahana Hanif and community group Good Neighbors of Park Slope, celebrated the completion of these projects with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.
The upgrades at Harmony Playground include the installation of a shade structure over the sandbox, as well as an expansion of the adjacent adult fitness area. This new fitness zone features a range of equipment designed to be universally accessible, catering to all ability levels. The new additions encompass equipment for abdominal crunches, chest and back presses, leg lifts, pull-ups, dips, and squats, among other exercises.
In addition to the fitness equipment, the improvements also include new seating, enhanced plantings, and a safety surface designed to elevate the overall visitor experience.
“The Alliance’s core mission is to make Prospect Park accessible and welcoming for everyone,” said Morgan Monaco, President of the Prospect Park Alliance. “Our new fitness area exemplifies this commitment by providing a space where all community members can engage in wellness activities and enjoy Brooklyn’s Backyard to the fullest.”
