by Daisy

Lansing, MI — On Wednesday, Lansing celebrated the grand opening of a new outdoor Fitness Court at Washington Park. This initiative, made possible through a partnership between Priority Health and the National Fitness Convention, marks the third Fitness Court installation in the city, reinforcing Lansing’s commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among its residents.

“I’m Ava Zanglin, your neighborhood reporter, here at the newly launched outdoor Fitness Court. This facility offers a free and convenient way for residents to enjoy outdoor physical activities,” said Zanglin. The Fitness Court provides a versatile space for comprehensive workouts using bodyweight exercises, suitable for people of all ages.

Rick Abbott of Priority Health highlighted the positive impact of physical activity on mental well-being. “Clinical studies show that regular movement and exercise can significantly alleviate anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues,” Abbott noted. He also shared Priority Health’s ambitious plans for the future: “By 2027, we aim to reach one-third of Michigan’s communities, providing access to these Fitness Courts to approximately 3.3 million Michiganders.”

Abbott emphasized the importance of equitable access to fitness facilities across the state, stating, “We want everyone to have the opportunity to exercise and take control of their health without the financial burden of gym memberships.”

Looking ahead, two more Fitness Courts are set to open within the next month—one at Jackson College and another in Hamtramck, continuing the expansion of this free outdoor fitness initiative.
