Actor and former WWE star Dave Bautista, known for his role as Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, has recently undergone a significant transformation, shedding 75 pounds. Despite still towering at 6’6″, his notable weight loss has sparked concern among fans. In a recent YouTube interview with journalist Chris Van Vliet, Bautista reassured viewers about his health and detailed the changes he made to achieve his new physique.
During the 30-minute conversation, Bautista discussed his evolution from wrestling to acting, reflecting on his time in WWE and his career in Hollywood. He explained that he initially gained weight for M. Night Shyamalan’s 2023 film “Knock at the Cabin,” admitting he had indulged in foods like french fries and pancakes, aiming to bulk up for the role.
“I was just thinking, ‘I gotta get big,’” Bautista recounted. However, he soon felt “uncomfortably big” and recognized the need for a change. As he began to lose weight, he noticed not only physical benefits but also improvements in his on-screen presence. “The more I trimmed down, the better I looked on camera,” he shared, noting the positive impact on his interactions with fellow actors.
Addressing fans’ concerns about his health, Bautista clarified, “Because people have seen me so much bigger over the years, they think I’m like anorexic, but I’m just a large human being.”
In terms of fitness, Bautista emphasized a rigorous workout routine alongside dietary changes. He consumes about 2,500 calories a day, which he considers a caloric restriction. He practices intermittent fasting, often skipping breakfast and not eating up to four hours before bedtime. Bautista follows a primarily plant-based diet, occasionally including fish for protein, and has expressed a desire to eventually adopt a fully vegan lifestyle.
Through this journey, Bautista demonstrates the importance of health and well-being, inspiring fans with his dedication to a balanced lifestyle.
