Hollywood legend Barbara Eden, best known for her iconic role in I Dream of Jeannie, has shared the secrets behind her impressive vitality at 93. In a recent interview with Fox News, Eden divulged her approach to maintaining a youthful appearance through a combination of fitness and dietary practices.
Eden, who has graced the screen since the 1960s, revealed that her active lifestyle has been key to her enduring youthfulness. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the star adhered to a rigorous exercise regimen that included spinning classes and weight training. However, the pandemic prompted a shift in her routine, adapting it to her current lifestyle.
“I used to work out all the time,” Eden noted. “I did spinning classes and lifted weights with a trainer. When COVID hit, that ended my heavy workouts. Now, I have a stationary bicycle and lift five-pound weights. They’re light but effective for maintaining bone health.”
Despite enjoying her home workouts, Eden confessed she misses the social aspect of the gym. “I liked the camaraderie and the energy of spinning classes. I’m not much of a self-starter; I need to remind myself to use the bicycle.”
Offering advice to her fans, Eden suggested finding a workout routine that suits personal needs. Reflecting on the fitness trends of her early years, she admitted that aerobics was not her favorite but found brisk walking beneficial. “Walking is great for your knees and ankles. It suits me better than running.”
In addition to her exercise routine, Eden emphasized the importance of diet in her wellness strategy. She credited her parents’ approach to eating in moderation for influencing her own habits. “My mother’s mantra was ‘moderation in all things,’ and that’s how I’ve lived.”
Eden also shared her love for various cuisines, particularly Italian and German. “I adore schnitzel, especially with lemon. Growing up in San Francisco, I think we had the best Italian and Chinese food.”
While she has a sweet tooth, Eden practices moderation. For skincare, she sticks to basic yet effective products. “I use Cetaphil to wash my face and Estée Lauder’s Repair Serum every night. Keeping your face clean is crucial.”
The actress, married to architect Jon Eicholtz since 1991, remains focused on her health and continues to embrace life with enthusiasm. Her career began with guest roles on shows like I Love Lucy and culminated in her beloved role as Jeannie, showcasing her enduring charm and dedication to her craft.
As Barbara Eden continues to inspire with her health and vitality, she looks forward to remaining productive and engaging with her fans for years to come.
