Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has recently captured public attention with her remarkable weight loss transformation. In a candid interview with Galatta India, she shared insights into her journey and the diet that helped her achieve her goals without exercising.
Struggling with Body Image
Throughout her life, Balan faced constant scrutiny regarding her weight, often being labeled as the “fat girl.” However, she has now reached a point where such criticisms no longer impact her. Reflecting on her experiences, she stated, “You know, all my life, I have struggled to be thin. I have dieted and exercised like crazy. Sometimes I would lose weight, and it would come back.”
Discovering the Right Approach
Earlier this year, Vidya connected with a nutritional group called Amura (Amura Health) in Chennai. They helped her understand that her weight issues were more related to inflammation than excess fat. “They said, ‘It is just inflammation; it is not fat,'” she explained. Amura guided her on a diet aimed at reducing inflammation by eliminating foods that didn’t suit her body. Surprisingly, she discovered that certain vegetables, like spinach and bottle gourd (doodhi), didn’t work for her despite being generally considered healthy.
Embracing a ‘No Workout’ Philosophy
One of the most surprising aspects of Balan’s transformation is her decision to stop working out entirely after years of rigorous gym sessions. “They (Amura) asked me to stop working out. You know everyone has been telling me, ‘Oh my God, you are your slimmest,’ and I have not worked out all year,” she revealed. This marks the first year she has not engaged in any workout routine.
Balan further elaborated on the societal pressure surrounding body image, stating, “Judgment around the body is brutal. A lot of times, people put on weight for various reasons because our bodies express what we are going through emotionally.” She added that, despite her past dedication to intense gym training, she now feels healthier and happier without the pressure of a workout regimen. “I am just enjoying myself and I am feeling healthier than ever,” she said.
A Call for Individuality
While acknowledging the importance of exercise, Vidya emphasized the need to respect individual differences when it comes to health and wellness. “No two people are the same… we must respect our individuality,” she concluded, encouraging others to find their own path to health.
Vidya Balan’s journey serves as a reminder that weight loss and health are not one-size-fits-all; sometimes, the best approach is to listen to your body and discover what truly works for you.
