The Indian Government has strengthened its healthcare ties with Fiji through a new initiative targeting the growing challenge of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The partnership saw the launch of a Yoga center in Vanua Levu, marking a significant step in the collaboration between the two nations.
Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Palaniswamy Karthigeyan, emphasized yoga’s role in addressing the NCD crisis, which is a leading cause of death in Fiji. He described yoga as a holistic practice that promotes physical fitness, emotional stability, and mental peace—key elements in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.
Karthigeyan further explained that the new Yoga Center is designed to complement conventional medical treatments by empowering Fijians to take a proactive approach to their health.
