Lemon balm tea has been making waves on social media, with influencers claiming it offers a variety of health benefits, including weight loss. But is there any truth to these claims?
Joy Schwartz, owner of the Wisteria Tea Room in Fort Myers, describes lemon balm as a staple of wellness and relaxation. “Lemon balm is essential for that spa and wellness and just that relaxing atmosphere,” Schwartz said, adding that the herb boasts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, along with potential hormone-balancing effects for women.
Nutritionist Kristen Bracconnier agrees that lemon balm has a range of benefits, particularly in promoting relaxation. “It’s a great natural remedy,” she explained. “A lot of the research points to drinking lemon balm tea for its potential to help with anxiety, stress, possibly depression, and sleep.”
However, when it comes to weight loss, the picture is less clear. While lemon balm may offer health benefits like lowering blood pressure and helping control blood sugar levels, it doesn’t directly contribute to fat loss. “It’s showing that it could possibly help lower blood pressure or help control blood sugars. But nothing weight loss-related,” Bracconnier clarified.
Though lemon balm tea might not be a weight-loss miracle, staying hydrated and choosing natural beverages can still support your overall wellness by curbing cravings and helping you manage your appetite.
In conclusion, while lemon balm tea offers a range of health advantages, it’s not a go-to solution for shedding pounds.
