A shocking investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches has exposed that Boots pharmacies across the UK have been selling weight loss jabs to underage teenagers without verifying their age. The undercover investigation found that a 16-year-old reporter was able to purchase the medication twice despite Boots’s policy prohibiting sales to those under 18.
The reporter falsely claimed to be 18 years old when applying online and was only asked to confirm her date of birth verbally when collecting the medication in-store. No photo ID was requested during either purchase, even after new regulations were introduced in February 2025.
Experts have described the findings as a “systemic failure,” while Health Secretary Wes Streeting expressed concerns over the risks of selling medications without proper medical supervision, pointing out the serious side effects such drugs can cause.
The investigation also uncovered nurses selling weight loss jabs privately without proper eligibility checks. The findings have raised serious concerns regarding the accessibility of weight loss drugs without the necessary medical safeguards.
