In a journey toward healthier living, Amy Fritz shared the pivotal changes she made to lose an impressive 7 stone, emphasizing that simplicity and consistency were the cornerstones of her success.
At her heaviest, Amy weighed 16st 4lb by the end of 2022. Although she was no stranger to fluctuating weight, it was a holiday experience that pushed her to act. “I couldn’t fit into anything, and seeing myself in photos was a wake-up call,” she said. “I was tired of carrying the guilt of mistreating my body and not taking action.”
Amy set out to make modest, yet impactful changes in early 2023, aiming for gradual, sustainable weight loss. She committed to small, manageable goals that would help her feel better physically and emotionally.
Rather than following a strict diet, Amy focused on incorporating lean proteins, plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy into her meals, prioritizing whole foods over processed ones. She also implemented a calorie deficit. This strategy, which involved cutting her daily intake from 4,000-5,000 calories of processed food down to under 2,000 calories, resulted in rapid weight loss.
“The pounds started to come off quickly,” Amy recalled, “and losing just one pound a week became my target, which I tracked diligently.” Despite occasional setbacks, she resisted the temptation to overestimate her calorie consumption and avoided eating out.
Physical activity played an important role in her transformation. Initially intimidated by the idea of exercising, Amy found support in a friend and began meeting at the gym three times a week for 30-minute walks. “It had been years since I’d been active, so it took some time, but within a couple of weeks, I began to see momentum,” she said.
As she gained confidence, Amy increased her intensity, working up to a workout that involved walking at a 3 mph pace with a 12% incline for 30 minutes. She stayed committed to this routine three to four times per week, all while maintaining a calorie deficit.
“I started small,” Amy reflected, “and I think that’s crucial for anyone starting their weight loss journey. Setting achievable goals in those early weeks builds the confidence and motivation you need to keep going.”
Her story highlights the power of consistent, manageable changes that, when maintained, can lead to remarkable results. Amy’s weight loss is a testament to the impact of simplifying the process and sticking with it, day by day.
