Sunny Hostin Shares Unique Experience After Discontinuing Weight-Loss Drug Mounjaro

by Daisy

Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, has opened up about her personal journey with Mounjaro, a weight-loss drug, and the surprising effects she experienced after discontinuing its use. In a candid interview with DailyMail.com, Hostin, 56, discussed how the injectable medication, which is primarily prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes, helped her shed 40 pounds that she gained during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hostin first shared her weight-loss story with her The View co-hosts—Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin—last year, explaining that she turned to Mounjaro after feeling “shame” over her pandemic weight gain. “I love to cook, and I found out, I love to eat,” she admitted on the show. “I was horrified about the fact that I would have to come out on air. So I also took Mounjaro.”

After successfully losing the weight, Hostin revealed that stopping the medication did not lead to the expected weight gain, which many individuals experience after discontinuing similar weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. “I feel really great,” she shared with DailyMail.com at the opening night of Othello on Broadway, where she showcased her slimmer figure in a white dress suit. “I don’t know what everyone else’s experience with it is, but I never gained any weight back.”

Studies have indicated that individuals who stop using GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro often face increased hunger and cravings as their hormonal signals shift. Many also experience regaining a substantial portion of the weight they initially lost. However, Hostin, who used Mounjaro for just four months, reported a “different experience.” She stated that she hasn’t experienced abnormal cravings and feels her body functions just as it did before starting the medication. “I was never a big eater, so I just sort of eat to live. I don’t live to eat,” she explained.

Maintaining her weight loss, Hostin emphasized the importance of consistent exercise as a key factor in her ongoing success. “Yeah, I’m just living life and feeling pretty good,” she added, noting that she has continued her workout routine throughout her weight-loss journey.

While Hostin’s experience has been unique, she remains open to the idea of resuming the medication if needed in the future. “If I needed to, sure. Why not?” she responded when asked whether she would go back on Mounjaro.

The use of weight-loss medications has sparked considerable debate among celebrities, with some, like Amy Schumer and Kelly Clarkson, openly admitting to using Mounjaro or similar drugs. Others, such as Jessica Simpson, have denied using such treatments, despite public speculation. Hostin believes that some public figures avoid discussing their use of weight-loss drugs due to societal stigma. “I think that’s unfortunate. Why? I don’t know. I think it’s kind of, to date, it’s a free world,” she said. “So if that’s what you want to do, then just do it.”

Hostin also stressed that using these medications is ultimately about body positivity. “Whatever makes you feel good, just do it,” she asserted.

Hostin’s co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who has been open about her own Mounjaro use, also discussed the benefits of the medication. Goldberg, who lost a significant amount of weight, referred to the drug as essential to her transformation, stating that without it, she “would not have happened.” Goldberg has been vocal in defending the use of GLP-1 drugs, especially in the wake of criticism from figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has spoken out against weight-loss medications in favor of diet and exercise.

Ultimately, both Hostin and Goldberg advocate for allowing individuals to make their own informed decisions regarding their health and weight-loss options, emphasizing that these medications can significantly impact those struggling with obesity-related issues.

As the conversation surrounding GLP-1 drugs continues to evolve, Hostin’s message remains clear: personal choice and body positivity are central to the ongoing discussion about weight loss and health.
