Cindi Saj, a researcher, therapist, and healing practitioner, is investigating how combining movement with therapeutic practices can enhance well-being. Her study, conducted in Williams Lake, focuses on a new approach that blends yoga with other therapeutic methods.
Saj, a faculty member in the Master of Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University, led the study on April 13. The research tests ideas presented in her recent article on the IDEA framework, which was published in the International Journal of Positivity and Well-being.
The study involved twelve participants who filled out questionnaires before and after a yoga-based therapy session. The goal was to assess any changes in their self-esteem and overall well-being following the session.
The therapy session took place at Studio 20 in Williams Lake, which Saj co-owns with Brandy Links and Bianca Cronin. The session combined yoga, hypnotherapy, bilateral stimulation, and psychotherapy techniques to promote healing.
Saj is currently analyzing the data from the study. If the results show positive effects, she plans to hold more sessions in the future. She is also considering offering these sessions at the studio’s new yoga dome, located just outside of Williams Lake.
The yoga dome, recently established, offers a space for people to disconnect and reconnect with nature year-round. In addition to yoga sessions, Studio 20 organizes small group hikes to local areas like Fox Mountain and Russet Bluff. These hikes aim to foster well-being through physical activity and a connection to nature. With the addition of the dome, participants will also have the option to enjoy wellness workshops and yoga classes in this peaceful environment. Winter activities, such as ski trips, will be incorporated as well.
Saj describes the dome as a place for individuals to “find a different way to de-stress or unpack or find peace.”
Upcoming events at Studio 20 include a yoga session in the dome on May 10, followed by a Mother’s Day wellness workshop on May 11. The next hike and lunch event will take place on June 8.
