Haryana to Hire ‘Sahayaks’ to Teach Yoga to School Students

Chandigarh, April 17 (PTI) — The Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, will soon hire ‘Yoga Sahayaks’ to teach yoga to students in government schools across the state.

At a review meeting of the Haryana Yoga Aayog on Thursday, it was announced that 857 Yoga Sahayaks will be deployed initially in PM SHRI schools, Model Sanskriti schools, and cluster schools in the state.

Sudhir Rajpal, the Additional Chief Secretary of the AYUSH Department, chaired the meeting and shared plans to establish an International Meditation Centre in Haryana. He instructed officials from the Kurukshetra Development Board and Shri Krishna AYUSH University to identify suitable land and speed up the process of setting up the centre.

Additionally, Rajpal directed the Panchayat Department to begin the renovation of yoga gymnasiums in Haryana, with a report to be submitted within a week. The state has allocated Rs 8 crore for the renovation project.

The meeting also focused on enhancing yoga education, with Rajpal stressing the importance of incorporating yoga into the school curriculum. He called for the development of a model syllabus to guide the teaching of yoga, which will be shared with universities for inclusion in their academic programs.
