New Gym in Former Nottingham Warehouse Approved for Development

by Daisy

Plans for a new gym in a former Nottingham warehouse have received approval from the city council. Nottingham City Council has granted permission for Physique Evolution Limited to take over a former warehouse on Daleside Road in Sneinton, previously owned by Almor Limited.

The warehouse is part of a larger industrial site that was once home to Almor Limited, a fabric and thermal factory that closed in 2022. The buildings on the site are now vacant, according to planning documents.

The council approved the gym plans on Monday, April 7. The warehouse will be converted into a fully-equipped gym, featuring a weights section, a cardio zone, and areas for boxing and MMA. Additional facilities will include a lounge with seating, male and female changing rooms, a “recovery suite,” a main reception, and an on-site shop.

The development will also offer 30 car parking spaces. Once operational, the gym will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends, according to the plans.

The gym is set to employ five full-time and eight part-time staff. Physique Evolution, an independent gym with a current location in Derby, aims to cater to local residents, particularly university students. Mark Cheetham, director of Physique Evolution Ltd, shared with the Local Democracy Reporting Service, “I live in West Bridgford, and my business partner Matthew and I have always wanted to open our next gym in Nottingham. We believe it will be perfect for university students, offering an affordable membership that promotes a healthy lifestyle without breaking the bank.”

However, the gym still requires the landlord’s consent before moving forward with the development, even though planning permission has been granted.

Meanwhile, another proposal for the site is under consideration. Advantage Padel Ltd has applied to convert a warehouse building on Daleside Road into a padel tennis center. This application, submitted on March 5, is still pending review by Nottingham City Council. Advantage Padel Ltd has been contacted for comment.
